Jacqui Cohen, MFT-I
Jacquelyn Cohen earned her Master of Science degree in Psychology for Marriage Family Therapy (Intern No. 49210). She works under the supervision of Jo Anne Kaplan Ph.D. Jacquelyn has worked in various settings including the Alcott Center, Dubnoff Center, Bridges Academy, and Private Practice with a diverse set of clients. She believes that each person is unique and therefore tailors the therapy sessions to meet the specific needs of each individual client.
Jacquelyn Cohen provides therapy to children, adolescents, adults, families, couples, and groups. She provides a safe, non-judgmental environment for personal growth, for clients to explore issues and work through difficult and painful emotions, healing past wounds. She helps the client to explore their emotional blocks and uncover self-sabotaging cognitions and negative patterns. She believes that through awareness and insight each individual has the ability to work through stuck areas and develop healthy coping styles in order to lead more gratifying, fulfilling lives. Jacquelyn helps clients with depression, anxiety and fears, disordered eating, women’s issues, life transitions, relationship issues, divorce, loss and grief, Asperger Syndrome and parenting issues.
Coming from a Humanistic/Existential background, Jacquelyn Cohen believes that each person has the capacity to create a balanced, healthy meaningful life; one just needs to have the desire to tap into their own resources. Belief in the human spirit and the ability to have courage and resiliency through stressful and traumatic experiences represent some of the basic qualities of the Humanistic view. Jacquelyn helps clients explore and discover what is true for them; that which supports them moving to a deeper more positive way of being. As a therapist she provides support as the individual takes the journey toward healing, evolving, and creating meaning in their life.
Utilizing an eclectic approach, Jacquelyn Cohen draws from methods including Cognitive, Cognitive-behavioral, Psychodynamic, Interpersonal Therapy, relaxation techniques, meditation, Art therapy, Inner-Child work, and Family Systems. Jacquelyn believes in a holistic approach, seeing the emotions, body, mind, and spirit as interconnected. She helps the individual in looking at the whole picture, what is happening today in their lives as well as how the past affects their present day experience.
Jacquelyn Cohen assists the client to recognize and reframe negative cognitions, and explore and work through self-defeating patterns and behaviors that keep them stuck. Jacquelyn believes in helping the client implement long lasting changes in order to create a more fulfilling, enjoyable life.
